 Wigs for Kids, Hair Donations

Crystal’s Spa and Salon has supported a number of women who have chosen to make donations of their hair to women who have lost their own hair to disease through the organization Wigs for Kids.

Wigs for Kids is a cooperative effort among Certified Cosmetic Therapists throughout North America who share a common goal. “Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they look, especially when they’re in the middle of a health crisis,” says Jeffrey Paul. “We want to give these kids the opportunity to feel good about themselves again.”

The value of the Hair Replacement Systems Wigs for Kids provides is approximately $1,800. “These are custom-made Hair Replacements,” says Jeffrey Paul. “Each prosthesis is hand-tied and is made completely from human hair. We make sure they look just like a child’s own hair.

Wigs for Kids depends on monetary and hair donations from generous individuals. The process for creating wigs made from real hair is costly and time-consuming. Wigs for Kids never charges the families that are receiving these custom Hair Replacement Systems.

Check out the pictures of the generous women and their transformations. They get a whole new look while giving other women opportunities for a whole new look as well!

 Spa Party

Darts & Laurels: Spa party makes teen’s birthday special at Cayuga Medical Center

Crystal Mullenix (from left, in back), Bridget Salay and Heather Prince treated Sandy Litwhiler and her daughter Angel Litwhiler (in front) to spa treatments as a surprise 14th birthday party for Angel on Dec. 5 at Cayuga Medical Center. Angel is a student at Odessa-Montour. (Provided)

LAUREL: From Alanna Downey Fontanella. To Crystal’s Spa and Salon and Sandy Litwhiler’s friends. Sandy wanted to surprise her daughter, Angel, on her 14th birthday with an extra special celebration. Looking forward to a 14th birthday is exciting, but when your mother is in the hospital, it complicates the situation. With help from her friends and the wonderful and talented ladies at Crystal’s Spa and Salon, that wish came true on Dec. 5. Crystal Mullenix, Bridgette Slay and Heather Prince transformed a Cayuga Medical Center conference room into a mini spa. As the mother/daughter duo sat facing each other and as the party guests looked on, a total transformation began. The luxurious facials brightened smiles, the manicures and pedicures loosened worries, and the hair styling enhanced the mood of everyone! Compassion, caring and gratitude filled the room. When spa time was over friends from Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development set to work on the birthday party complete with all things pink (Angel’s favorite!) from feather boas to a pink cake and table service. Gifts for Angel, Sandy’s sister, and the wonderful Smith family, who care for Angel while her mother is in the hospital, were happily presented. I wish to thank everyone who contributed to making Angel’s 14th birthday party everything Sandy hoped it would be. All evidenced by Angel’s sentiment that it was the best birthday party she ever had!
